Activator Definition:
Activator is a protein that binds to DNA and stimulates transcription of a gene.

Activator Notes:
Activator is a DNA-binding protein that regulates one or more genes by increasing the rate of transcription. Most activators are DNA-binding proteins that bind to enhancers or other elements on promoters to enhance the transcription of any protein that is needed urgently or in a large amount. The DNA site bound by the activator is referred to as an "activator site" and the part of the activator that makes protein-protein interactions with the general transcription machinery is referred to as the activating region.
