Need for power (nPow) is a term that was promoted by prestigious therapist David McClelland in 1961. McClelland's reasoning was impacted by the spearheading work of Henry Murray, who originally distinguished hidden mental human needs and persuasive procedures (1938). It was Murray who set out a scientific classification of requirements, including requirements for accomplishment, power, and association - and put these with regards to a coordinated persuasive model.
