An independent clause (also known as a main clause) is a clause that forms a complete, independent thought. Like all clauses, an independent clause contains a subject and a predicate (which consists of a verb and any related information).

Independent clause, is a group of words having subject and verb and can convey proper meaning of a text or a sentence. In simple words we can say that independent clause doesn't need another part of a sentence to make a sense and it can stand all alone. It makes meaningful communication possible whether we are writing or speaking. It is one of the natural law in English language. This clause can be used in simple,compound,complex and compound-complex sentences. For example: "He is wearing a sweater because it's cold outside." "I like coconut macaroons" as these example have no dependent clauses, these sentences can stand alone and can convey proper meaning so that's why they are called as independent clause
