AP Site Definition:

  • An apurinic or apyrimidinic site in a DNA strand..

Molecular Biology by Robert F. Weaver

AP Site Notes:

In molecular genetics and biochemistry, an Apurinic or Apyrimidinic site (AP Site), also called an abasic site is a specific location in the DNA that neither has a purine, nor a pyrimidine base. This absence can be accounted to DNA damage or it can be spontaneous. Sometimes an AP site can also be present in the RNA.
