Heat Notes:

The energy transferred between two substances at different temperatures is called heat. Heat is usually measured in units of energy like calorie or joules. The direction of energy flow is always from the higher temperature to the lower. Although heat flows spontaneously from a hotter body to a cooler one, it is possible to construct a heat pump; a refrigeration system expends work to transfer energy from a colder body to hotter surroundings; such a device can also transfer energy from colder surroundings to a hotter body.
