Trisomy Definition:
If a chromosome is present in triplicate in the zygote (so that the cell has 2n + 1 chromosomes), the aneuploid cell is trisomic for that chromosome.

Trisomy Notes:
Trisomy is another important example of aneuploidy when the chromosomes fail to separate during meiosis. Trisomy occurs when one of the daughter cells receives two copies of chromosomes because the other received none. Down syndrome is an example of a trisomic disorder. Down syndrome is the trisomy of chromosome 21 and is typically associated with physical growth delays, mild to moderate intellectual disability, and characteristic facial features.
