Monosomy Definition:
Monosomy is a mishap in which one of the chromosomes is missing in the daughter cells which leads to 2n- 1 chromosomes. aneuploid zygote is said to be monosomic.

Monosomy Notes:
Monosomy is an example of aneuploidy when the chromosomes fail to separate during meiosis. Monosomy results when a daughter cell receives no copy of a particular chromosome because the other daughter cell received two. The resulting number of chromosomes is 2n-1. AN example of monosomic disorder in humans is the Turner syndrome in which females only inherit one X chromosome. The most common feature of Turner syndrome is short stature, which becomes evident by about age 5. An early loss of ovarian function (ovarian hypofunction or premature ovarian failure) is also very common.
