MHC molecule Definition:
Host protein that displays the antigen fragment on the cell surface is called a major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecule.

MHC molecule Notes:
The major histocompatibility complex is a set of genes that code for cell surface proteins that are important for the adaptive immune system to recognize foreign molecules in vertebrates, which in turn determines histocompatibility. The main function of MHC molecules is to bind to antigens derived from pathogens and display them on the cell surface for recognition by the appropriate T-cells. The MHC determines one's susceptibility to an autoimmune disease via cross reacting immunization as well as compatibility of donors for organ transplant
