Union of the cytoplasms of two parent mycelia in fungi is known as plasmogamy.

Plasmogamy Notes:
Plasmogamy is a stage in the sexual reproduction of fungi, in which the cytoplasm of two parent cells (usually from the mycelia) fuses together without the fusion of nuclei. This process effectively brings two haploid nuclei close together in the same cell. This plasmogamy is followed by karyogamy when the two nuclei fuse together and then undergo meiosis to produce spores. The dikaryotic state that comes after plasmogamy will often persist for many generations before the fungi undergoes karyogamy.
