Epistasis Definition:
Epistasis occurs when phenotypic expression of a gene at one locus alters that of a gene at a second locus.

Epistasis Notes:
Epistasis is the phenomenon where the effect of one gene is dependent on the presence of one or more 'modifier genes', i.e. the genetic background. Epistasis describes how gene interactions can affect phenotypes. An important example of this is the pigmentation in mice that is effected by the locus of the pigmentation gene and not the presence of just the gene itself.
