Cytoplasmic genes Definition:
Genes that are located in organelles in the cytoplasm and are outside the nucleus are called extranuclear genes or cytoplasmic genes.

Cytoplasmic genes Notes:
Not all the genes are present in the nucleus. Some of the genes are present outside the nucleus and in the organelles which is why they're called the cytoplasmic genes. A typical example of an organelle carrying genes is the mitochondria. Almost all the genes that are needed for it to carry out oxidative phosphorylation are present in it but they're not in the form of chromosomes like they are in the nucleus but rather are like circular plasmids.
