Capsid Notes:

A capsid is the protein shell of a virus. It consists of several oligomeric structural subunits made of protein called protomers. Also present, are the 3-dimensional morphological subunits which are called capsomeres. The capsid encloses the genetic material of the virus. On the capsid several protein molecules are attached which bind to the receptor molecules on the host surface and mediate viral entry inside the cell.
