Buffer Solution Definition:

Buffer Solution Notes:

A buffer solution can be defined as a solution that consists of a mixture of a weak acid and its conjugate base or a weak base and its conjugate acid. There are two types of buffer solutions i.e. an acidic buffer and a basic buffer. An acid buffer is the solution of a mixture of a weak acid and a salt of this weak acid with a strong base while a basic buffer is the solution of a mixture of a weak base and a salt of this weak base with a strong acid. Examples of buffer solutions are Citric acid + sodium citrate, Glycerine + HCl etc. A buffer solution has a definite pH value. Buffer solutions are used as a means of keeping pH at a nearly constant value in a wide variety of chemical applications. This happens nature as well. There are many systems that use buffering for pH regulation.
