Organ System Level Definitions:
In higher organisms more than one type of tissue having related functions are organized together and make a unit, is called organ.
Biology by Dr. William George and A.R. sheikh
Way in which organisms are built up can be summarized like this: cells, make up tissues, which make up organ, which make up organ system, which make up organisms.
Cambridge IGSCE Biology by Mary Jones, Geoff Jones
Organ System Level Notes:
It is believed that the different tissues of an organ are performed a particular task and these functions collectively perform the given task of that organ. For instance, stomach is an organ designated for performing function of dissolving and digesting protein and also for storing food. Similarly, muscular tissue acts to perform function of grinding food through contraction of walls and pushing food towards posterior end. Digestive system is also an organ that carries out the procedure involved in digestion.
