Factors Affecting Rate of Transpiration Definition:

  • Rate of transpiration is directly controlled by the opening and closing of stomata and it is under the influence of light.

Biology by Dr.William George and A.R.Sheikh

Factors Affecting Rate of Transpiration Notes:

Transpiration is evolved by the opening and closing of stomata due to light. The other factors that affects the percentage of transpiration are: temperature, air humidity, air movement and leaf surface area. Temperature is being involved in reduction of humidity, increasing the kinetic energy of water molecules causes closure of of stomata. Air humidity, causing diffusion of vapours that in return reduced and the transpiration rate becomes low. Air movement increases the rate of evaporation from surface of mesophyll. The rate of transpiration also increases due to leaf surface area that is responsible for providing more stomata.
