AP Endonuclease Definition:
An enzyme that cuts a strand of DNA on the 5'-side of an AP site..
Molecular Biology by Robert F. Weaver
AP Endonuclease Notes:
Ap endonuclease stands for Apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease, an enzyme that functions in the DNA base revision repair pathway. It cuts a DNA strand on the 5'-side of an AP site. It plays a main role in the repair of mismatched or damaged nucleotides in the DNA, by creating a nick in the phosphodiester backbone of the AP site, when the damaged base is removed by the DNA glycosylase.
