Single chain glycoprotein expressed on activated T cells, B cells, and macrophages; dendritic cells and peripheral blood monocytes express low levels. B7 binds CD28 on T cells, resulting in second signal activation.

B7 is a peripheral membrane protein present on APCs or antigen presenting cells which when combined with either a CD152 (CTLA-4) or CD28 surface protein on T-cell produce a co-inhibitory or co-stimulatory signal to decrease or enhance the MHC-TCR signal activity between the T cell and the APC.
