Phloem sap Definition:
Phloem sap, the aqueous solution that flows through sieve tubes, differs markedly from the xylem sap that is transported by tracheids and vessel elements.

Phloem sap Notes:
Phloem sap in plants consists primarily of sugars, hormones, and mineral elements dissolved in water. It flows from where carbohydrates are produced or stored, which are also the sugar source, to where they are used, which is known as sugar sink. Phloem sap is also thought to play a role in sending informational signals throughout vascular plants. Phloem sap has common household usage too for example Maple syrup is made from reduced sugar maple xylem sap and this sap often is harvested from the sugar maple, Acer saccharum.
