Compound Definition:
A compound is a substance consisting of two or more different elements combined in a fixed ratio.

Compound Notes:
A substance that consists atoms of two of more elements is called a compound. These atoms of elements are joined together by certain forces or bonds like the ionic bonds. Water, salt, and sugar are examples of compounds. When the elements are joined, the atoms lose their individual properties and have different properties from the elements they are composed of. An example of a compound is water that is made by the bonding of two hydrogen atoms with one oxygen atom.
