Campbell Biology by J.B. Reece, L.A. Urry, M.L. Cain, S.A. Wasserman, P.V. Minorsky, R.B. Jackson

Pilli Notes:

Pilli, like fimbriae are also hair like appendages present on some types of prokaryotic cells. These conjugative Pilli allow for the transfer of DNA between bacteria, in the process of bacterial conjugation. They are sometimes called "sex Pilli", in analogy to sexual reproduction, because they allow for the exchange of genes via the formation of mating pairs. So through these Pilli some prokaryotic organisms perform reproduction.
