Hydrolysis Definition:
Hydrolysis occurs when the bond between monomers is broken by the addition of a water molecule, with a hydrogen from water attaching to one monomer and the hydroxyl group attaching to the other.

The term hydrolysis can be used for electrochemical as well as biological reactions. Hydrolysis reaction occurs when a compound or chemical is broken down into its substituents with the addition of a water molecule.
