Exon ShuffiIng Definition:
- Mechanism which joins exons from different genes to generate more transcripts. - Essential Bioinformatics by Jin Xiong
Exon ShuffiIng Notes:
Exon shuffling is a molecular mechanism in which new genes are formed during evolution. It is a process through which two or more exons from different genes cross over at non-homologous loci, or the duplication of same exon, to create a new multidomain proteins with various novel functions. Exon shuffling occurs through: transposon, crossing over and non-homologous recombination.
