It is important to monitor if the actual work performed is according to the plan/schedule. The schedule performance of a project is analyzed using different performance measures. One of the schedule performance indicator is called schedule performance index. It shows how efficiently the project is performed till the specific point in time. Schedule performance index is a ratio of earned value to planned value. Schedule performance index is usually used in combination with cost performance index. Schedule performance index of 1.0 shows that more work has been accomplished in relation to the planned schedule. The schedule performance index of the critical path must be analyzed to know if the overall project will be completed on, before or after the planned finish date.
