TATA box Notes:

A TATA box is a DNA sequence that indicates where a genetic sequence can be read and decoded. It is a type of promoter sequence, which specifies to other molecules where transcription begins. Transcription is a process that produces an RNA molecule from a DNA sequence and it requires a promoter sequence to be present. So TATA is one of the sequences present on the promoter. The promoter lies upstream of and slightly overlaps with the transcriptional start site (+1). It contains a TATA box, which has a sequence (on the coding strand) of 5'-TATAAA-3'. The first eukaryotic general transcription factor binds to the TATA box.
